We finally have our first look at the cast of Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class, and the result are… well, kind of disappointing. Don’t get us wrong, First Class has a pretty stellar cast led by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as Magneto and Professor Xavier respectively — Maybe we were just expecting more from this first picture?
Then again, it’s very hard to argue with January Jones sporting lingerie for an entire film. This is our first glimpse of the characters and there is a lot to like. We do dig the retro-styling of the costumes, which evoke the classic blue and yellow outfits that the mutant team wore in the 1960s. It’s just that the whole image looks so hastily put together, we’ll withhold final judgement until we see a high resolution version. What do you think?
Matthew Vaughn was originally tapped to direct X-Men: The Last Stand, but Fox got cold feet two weeks(!) before filming and replaced him with hack-extraordinaire Brett Ratner. We all know how well that one turned out. The First Class director has since given us the highly entertaining Kick-Ass, perhaps we are finally in for a long overdue great X-Men film.
X-Men: The First Class arrives in theatres June 3, 2011
Thanks to Kevin for the heads up.
