TIFF 2016: Ape Sodom Review

Short Cuts

It took me a few minutes to acclimate myself to Ape Sodom, the darkly comic critique of consumerism from director (and actor) Maxwell McCabe-Lokos. With just a few well-chosen locations and some limited dialogue, McCabe-Lokos creates a thoroughly twisted not-so-distant future, and brashly dares the audience to embrace its occasionally demented wavelength. Those who do will be rewarded with some sharp satire, involving a “Slave” (the director) being put through his paces by a wealthy consumer (Mihály Szabados). Featuring a brief, welcome vocal appearance by David Cronenberg.

Screening:

Saturday, Sept 17, 9:45pm @ Scotiabank
