6 Underground: Ryan Reynolds Squads-up in Michael Bay’s New Action Epic

Netflix Unleashes some Bay-hem

Michael Bay movies are an acquired taste. Don’t go in to one expecting deep characters, clever plots, and thoughtful themes. And his style of humour skews towards the crass, the juvenile, and flat-out offensive. But if you can get over those hurdles, and embrace his unique gifts, his movies have their moments. Bay makes action flicks like nobody else on the planet, and based on the trailer for his latest picture, 6 Underground, Bay is working at peak-form.

6 Underground is the story of six billionaires who fake their own deaths to join an elite vigilante squad aimed at taking down criminals. I’m not going to lie; that’s an intriguing hook that sounds as thrilling as it is ridiculous.

6 Underground trailer:

Based on the trailer, this movie is the Ryan Reynolds show – I love that IMDb currently lists his character’s name as, “One.” I’ve never been a big fan of Reynolds’ work; I can’t get past the smarminess he brings to every role. And I’m curious to see what he brings to the table as Bay’s latest muse. Based on this trailer, he has never looked more bad-ass.

Rounding out the cast is Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse), Adria Arjona (Triple Frontier), Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds), and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton). And the film features a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese; the two men also penned Deadpool 2 and Zombieland: Double Tap.

6 Underground synopsis:

What’s the best part of being dead?

It isn’t escaping your boss, your ex, or even erasing your criminal record. The best part about being dead…is the freedom. The freedom to fight the injustice and evil that lurk in our world without anyone or anything to slow you down or tell you “no.”

6 Underground introduces a new kind of action hero. Six individuals from all around the globe, each the very best at what they do, have been chosen not only for their skill, but for a unique desire to delete their pasts to change the future. The team is brought together by an enigmatic leader (Ryan Reynolds), whose sole mission in life is to ensure that, while he and his fellow operatives will never be remembered, their actions damn sure will.

6 Underground arrives on Friday, December 13, 2019.
