Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Quentin Tarantino is a cinematic visionary. His films put indie cinema on the map, inspired a generation of up-and-coming directors and screenwriters, and 50-years from now, people will still be dissecting his movies and their impact on Hollywood. When new Tarantino movies hit theatres, it’s a BIG deal. And for months, Tarantino’s fans have been chomping at the bit for any tiny detail about his 9th picture, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The trailer dropped this morning, so, without further adieu…
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Trailer
Tarantino has Godfather-like clout in Hollywood, and he leverages it like a boss. His ensemble casts are second to none. In today’s stream-anything-anytime entertainment landscape, Hollywood movie stars are losing their lustre. The George Clooneys, Julia Roberts, and Bruce Willis’ of the world can’t pull in audiences like they used to. Although true A-listers are a dying breed, Tarantino still hoarded together what may be the year’s best all-around cast.
Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie are A-listers who shine with the force of a thousand suns. Having any one of them in your flick will put butts in seats. But wait, there’s more. Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Dakota Fanning, Damian Lewis, and the always great Tim Roth fill out the cast. There won’t be enough screen time for everybody. But in the Tarantino-verse, one standout scene or line of dialogue can leave a scorching impression on moviegoers. Tarantino writes dialogue that sounds like nobody else, and he creates characters that have long pop culture shelf lives. I’m already nerding-out picturing Pacino chewing the scenery in a Tarantino movie.
On top of everything else, this trailer looks gorgeous. Tarantino and his frequent collaborator, DP Robert Richardson (Kill Bill, Django Unchained) went out of their way to recreate old-school Hollywood in painstaking detail. Everything from the neon signs to the California sunshine highlighting Brad Pitts gorgeous locks has a warm vintage look. This film demands to be watched on a giant screen.
