Perhaps no other series has given me as many mixed feelings as Titans. It’s both a dark and gritty take on DC’s iconic team of young heroes, the Teen Titans, and a fun and charming character study about lonely people finding a sense of belonging.
Season one featured some thrilling highs, but way too many lows to make it onto my must-see-TV list. But there was always enough promise to keep me coming back for more. So, I’m legitimately excited to see the trailer for the show’s second season.
Titans features a solid mix of elements you want from a show based on a comic: great action sequences, knock-out costumes and production design, and over-the-top comic book-style melodrama. Early on, Titans’ dull characters lacked chemistry and the story felt by-the-numbers, but things slowly fell into place as the season progressed. The season two trailer looks exciting as hell, but I’m most intrigued by how these new characters affect the team’s family dynamic.
New additions to the cast include Conner Kent/Superboy (Joshua Orpin), Deathstroke (Esai Morales), Aqualad (Drew Van Acke) and Game of Thrones’ Ian Glen as Bruce Wayne.
The show follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.
Titans’ second season arrives on Friday, September 06, 2019.
