Holland and Pratt Have Magical Chemistry in Onward Trailer

A new trailer for Pixar’s upcoming movie Onward arrived today, and it features a pair of the MCU’s biggest names putting on a magical show.

Tom Holland and Chris Pratt play a pair of blue teenage elf brothers – writing that sentence fills me with joy. Although they live in a fantasy world, their suburban lifestyle is actually mundane and lacking in magic – it’s a world where unicorns are ferocious-looking pack animals and cute little pixies wear leather jackets. The brothers stumble into a wizard stick that possesses magical powers, and they use it to bring back their father. Rest assured that hijinks ensue. Take a look.

Onward wasn’t on my radar until today, and now the trailer piqued my interest. I like the film’s unique take on a fantasy world that isn’t magical at all. I was amused by all the sight gags that featured mystical creatures living out their unremarkable existence.

Onward’s writer/director Dan Scanlon’s last picture was the 2013 film Monsters University, which I haven’t got around to watching. So, I’m not sure what to expect from this new project. Although the trailer didn’t wow me, Onward’s intriguing premise and solid voice cast (which also includes the queen Julia Louis-Dreyfus) are enough to lure me into the theatre when the film drops next March.

Onward synopsis:

Set in a suburban fantasy world, “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt), who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Also featuring the voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Ian and Barley’s mom, Laurel Lightfoot, and Octavia Spencer as the voice of the Manticore, Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new original feature film is directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae—the team behind “Monsters University.”
