Chalamet and Pattinson Kick It Old School in the Final The King Trailer

After his standout performances in Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name, Timothée Chalamet became one of Hollywood’s fastest rising stars. The 23-year-old actor has already achieved heartthrob status, and yet, he has the acting chops to cross over into the kind of indie flicks that makes cinephiles lose their mind.  So, it’s only too appropriate for Chalamet to share the screen with another teen heartthrob who crossed over into respectable actor territory, Robert Pattinson. And the two of them areteaming up in Netflix’s new historical biopic, The King.

The King trailer:

One glance at Chalamet’s IMDb page should send his fans over the moon. He’s re-teaming with his Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig and starring in her upcoming Little Women adaptation. Gerwig has long been a darling on the indie scene, and her debut feature was one of the best coming-of-age movies of the last decade. So, expect big things from Little Women, which drops later this year.

And if intimate little dramas aren’t your thing, Chalamet will take centre stage in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Dune. Dune is one of those beloved sci-fi series that people call unadaptable. And David Lynch’s messy 1984 adaptation only strengthens that case. But special effects technology has greatly advanced since then, and Villeneuve is one of the finest genre filmmakers to step behind a camera. And with Chalamet locked in to star as Dune’s main protaganist, Paul Atreides, there’s plenty of reason to stay optimistic.

The King is already screening in select theatres, and the rest of the world can catch it when it arrives on Netflix next week. If you’re anxious to read out take, That Shelf sent film critic Pat Mullen to review the film, and you can check out his review here.
