CONTEST: See BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING at The Bloor!

Hey y’all. A new week means another great contest for our friends in the city of TORONTO, and this time to celebrate the release of Hot Docs 2012 fan favourite BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING, the good folks from Kinosmith have given us some pairs of tickets to give away to various shows this opening weekend, Friday, September 28th through Sunday, September 30th, some of which give you more than just a chance to see a really great movie.

Part biography, part live performance, Beauty Is Embarrassing, traces artist Wayne White’s career from an underground cartoonist in New York’s East Village to his big break as a designer, puppeteer and voice-over actor on Pee-wee’s Playhouse for which he won three Emmy’s. It follows Wayne’s success designing and animating for other children’s shows like Beakman’s World and music videos for The Smashing Pumpkins (“Tonight, Tonight”) and Peter Gabriel (“Big Time”) through a dark period of struggle and self-reflection before emerging in his present-day incarnation as a respected painter and performer. The film, like White, embraces the ragged edges and messy contradictions of life, art, and family with rabid humor and honesty.

If you want to learn more, check out our interview with Wayne and the film’s director Neil Berkeley, but if you’re in already or you’re a fan, here are the screenings we have tickets available for:

Friday, September 28th, 4:00pm (1 pair of tickets available)
Friday, September 28th, 6:00pm (1 pair of tickets available, Wayne White and Neil Berkeley will be in attendance for an intro and Q&A, followed by a meet and greet at Pauper’s Pub across the street beginning at 8:30pm)
Saturday, September 29th, 9:45pm, (1 pair of tickets available)
Sunday, September 30th: SPECIAL DOUBLE BILL: Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure at 4:00pm and Beauty is Embarrassing at 6:30pm

For your chance to win, simply email [email protected] with BEAUTY IS EMBARRASSING in the subject line and tell us which of the four screenings you would like to go to (or if you can make more than one, order by preference). Only one entry per household. For additional chances to win, simply like the contest announcement on our Facebook page and/or re-Tweet the announcement from our Twitter.
