Cue Fanfare? Classic Star Wars element won’t return in Episode VII

Before any starships flew into frame, before the opening crawl, even before the iconic blue text reading ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away’ appeared, a Star Wars film would always kick off with the trumpeting fanfare and spotlights of the 20th Century Fox logo.

It was the point where the anticipation of watching a new chapter of the saga turned into reality. The logo and fanfare fit so perfectly that, as a kid, I just assumed that it had been created for Star Wars and was then used for other movies because of the positive associations it would have for audiences.

When George Lucas sold the rights for the new films to Disney, it likely didn’t occur to very many people that this iconic Fox logo, almost inseparable from Star Wars for so many years, would not be ushering in the new films. As the new movies are a co-production of Disney, Lucasfilm, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, the only logo that is pretty much guaranteed to precede the new film is Lucasfilm’s. But will Disney and Bad Robot put there’s up there too, or will Disney create something new and original just for their Star Wars films? This is going to to keep me up at night until The Force Awakens in exactly nine months!

One fan put together his idea of how the three production companies will present themselves. What do you think?
