Star Wars Celebration: Funko Exclusives

Many exclusives will tie in to the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Fan conventions are unique opportunities to get together with fellow enthusiasts to celebrate our favourite movies and TV shows, interact with people who helped make them a reality, and buy exclusive merchandise to commemorate the occasion. George Lucas created one of the world’s biggest franchises, which in turn inspired one of the largest fandoms. Star Wars Celebration (SWC) launched 20 years ago and has been held in cities around the world. This year, it’s returning to the east coast with its first show in Chicago from April 11 to 15. The 13th edition also marks the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

There’s always lots to see and do, but there’s also plenty to buy. In addition to regular vendors and retailers, there are the coveted convention exclusives only made available to attendees. And some of the most popular pieces will be presented by Funko, who are bringing more than 10 collectibles to the five-day show.

Funko’s chrome Pop!s have always been a hit. The shiny variants look slick and come in multiple colours, though up to now the Star Wars chrome figures have just been metallic. This time the toy company is taking it up a notch with the release of six stunning blue chrome Pop!s that will only be available at the convention. Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Yoda, Stormtrooper, and Princess Leia will shine bright, alongside Watto and a new Darth Maul sculpt in honour of Episode I’s anniversary. Funko is also paying tribute to Jabba’s Palace with three new Pop! PEZ exclusives: Salacious B. Crumb, Gamorrean Guard and Jabba the Hutt.

In an unexpected twist, those who do not win access to the booth via the lottery or are simply not attending SWC will still have a chance to buy the chrome Pop!s – but they will be gold! Now distinguished by more than just a sticker, all six figures will be available in the alternate colour at TBA partner retailers. Of course, Star Wars collectors and completionists are now in the difficult position of trying to get 12 Pop!s instead of six, but that’s the nature of collecting!
