Adventure Gaming: Tim Schafer is Host Master

Tim is saying "I don't have any jokes ready!"

Tim Schafer, known for his work on adventure games such as Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, is now the star of his own point-and-click adventure game: Host Master and the Conquest of Humor. The game follows Schafer as he prepares some last-minute jokes to give as host of the 2009 Game Developers Choice Awards. It’s a short, but sweet game that can be played in a Flash-enabled web browser.

Fans of the humour and style of Schafer’s work, like The Secret of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle, are likely to get a kick out of Host Master: it’s just like the funny, puzzle-centred LucasArts adventure games of the mid-90’s. Those unfamiliar with those games may not get the in-joke nature of this old-school adventure, but can still enjoy Host Master‘s humour and retro aesthetic.

The game is created by Klint Honeychurch who works at Double Fine Productions, the studio behind Psychonauts and upcoming Brütal Legend. Double Fine and Schafer have been coming up in gaming news feeds often in the past few months, as Brütal Legend builds up its pre-release marketing.
