Avengers: Endgame Trailer: To the End

The countdown to Avengers: Endgame is on

As if MCU fans needed any more reasons to get pumped up for Avengers: Endgame, the folks at Marvel dropped another hype-inducing trailer. The latest trailer, titled To the End, takes viewers through the MCU’s history, from Iron Man all the way to End Game. While we’ve seen most of the footage before, and it doesn’t reveal much about Endgame, it’s still a blast to watch.

We are now ten years deep into the MCU’s mythology and its characters, stories, and imagery have become more than pop culture staples: they’re iconic. This tour down nostalgia-alley carries a lot of emotional weight. And when you factor in that we may be seeing these characters together for the last time, the trailer becomes even more powerful.

Watching ten years crammed into two-minutes lets the trailer’s editors cherry-pick the MCU’s juiciest images. Even a film I’m lukewarm on like Doctor Strange looks thrilling and badass when thrown into To the End’s action-packed montage. Take a look.

But the thing I enjoyed the most? Seeing the remaining Avengers back on earth, standing in a mundane-looking office alongside Nebula and Rocket. It’s a reminder of how far these movies have come. A blue space alien and a talking raccoon hanging out in Stark Tower isn’t something Marvel could pull off in its Phase One films. In 2019, these characters coming together doesn’t feel silly at all. The shot looks lifted from the pages of the Marvel comics I grew up reading. And I never thought these characters would show up in live-action movies. Seeing these movies earnestly tackle Marvel Comics’ wackier elements makes my heart smile.

To the End is a beautiful reminder of how far the MCU has come in ten years, and it also leaves me excited for what comes next.

Avengers: Endgame synopsis:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Avengers: Endgame arrives in theatres on April 26, 2019.
