Ryan Reynolds stars in Free Guy, the 2021 comedic shot in the arm we’ve all been waiting for. Directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Night at the Museum), the film follows a bank teller (Reynolds) who discovers he is actually a background player – an NPC – in a virtual, open-world video game. Taking advantage of his new-found awareness and autonomy, and of a world with no limits, he decides to become the hero of his own story and save the world his way.
With a stellar supporting cast that includes Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi and a script by Zak Penn and Matt Lieberman, Free Guy looks set to be a memorably epic movie adventure. It opens wide in theatres August 13, but That Shelf wants to send you and a friend to see it before anyone else! Advanced screenings will be taking place in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton on August 11 – and we’ve got some passes to give away courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Canada.
