Alfred Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut are coming to the TIFF Bell Lightbox this Friday. While the filmmakers themselves left this earth over 30 years ago (Hitchcock in 1980 and Truffaut in ’84), film critic and documentarian Kent Jones brings us a piece of film history with his film Hitchcock/ Truffaut, a documentary about the week long interview that was the basis for Truffaut’s book of the same name. Over the course of their meetings, Hitchcock delivers an indispensable masterclass on cinema that illustrates how he was able to be so consistently successful. In addition to photos and audio clips from the interview, Jones fleshes out this documentary with interviews from contemporary filmmakers Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Arnaud Desplechin, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Wes Anderson, James Gray, Olivier Assayas, Richard Linklater, Peter Bogdanovich, and Paul Schrader.
Hitchcock/ Truffaut premiered at TIFF this year (read our review here) and opens at the Lightbox Friday December 4th.
Dork Shelf is giving away Run of Engagement passes, valid for any Hitchcock/ Truffaut screening at the Lightbox.
