Here’s one that will get all of our film lovers salivating. In this case, the term “film lover” is used in its most literal sense, as director Quentin Tarantino is determined to save celluloid with this lush throwback. The Hateful Eight was shot using 70mm Panavision film cameras and is being presented in a “roadshow” version in cinemas equipped to handle this format’s projection needs (i.e. the Varsity in Toronto and The Park in Vancouver). This slightly longer version also includes a five minute overture (where you’ll get the first taste of Ennio Morricone’s score) and an intermission, which is another thing missing in this age of bloated 3 hour blockbusters. As if a new Tarantino film wasn’t already enough cause for excitement, he is truly turning this one into an event by reminding us what a night out at the movies is supposed to be.
Thanks to the kind folks at eOne films, we’re giving our readers the chance to see the 70mm Roadshow in Toronto or Vancouver before it hits theatres on December 25th!
