Do you remember 2013? You’d be forgiven if you don’t, given the ups and downs of the world over the last decade. But that particular year was a banner one for Torontonians, courtesy of the city’s now-infamous mayor, Rob Ford. His scandal ridden tenure made headlines across Canada and around the world.
Flash-forward to South by Southwest in 2019 and the premiere of writer and director Ricky Tollman’s look at the late politician’s often tumultuous final year in power, Run That Town. It stars Ben Platt, Mena Massoud, Nina Dobrev, Scott Speedman, Gil Bellows, Jennifer Ehle, and Damian Lewis as the man himself. The film tracks Ford’s substance abuse, the investigative push to expose him, and the bombshell report that blew the whole thing wide open.
