Final Fantasy VII Remake

My most anticipated title at E3, Square Enix pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy VII Remake and showed us a demo of gameplay, including a boss battle against the Scorpion Sentinel. All of the building up to Square Enix’s event began during the Final Fantasy VII concert on Sunday. This trailer played at the event:

Then, we had the actual event last night. We got a hell of a lot from Square Enix and it looked good.

Square Enix confirmed Final Fantasy VII is still an episodic game. The first game ships next year, March 3, 2020 and comes on two Blu-Ray discs. As such, the Midgar portion is heavily expanding and focuses on the events happening within the city.

Romancing SaGa and SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions

Not one, but two new SaGa titles coming to the West! Romancing SaGa3 is heavily inspired by the SNES and is getting  remake in a 16-bit style. It’s coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and handhelds. SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions is heading over to the West as well.

Outriders

People Can Fly is working on a new shooter and it’s coming in Summer 2020. The studio behind the excellent Bulletstorm say it’s a co-op shooter for 1 – 3 players and is decribed as “a journey across a dark and desperate sci-fi world in search of the source of a mysterious signal.” It’s out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Avengers

Crystal Dynamics revealed our first look at their Avengers video game, which is out on May 15, 2020. Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Iron Man are playable and the studio confirmed that more content and characters are coming post-launch. The four-player co-op features local and online and there’s zero lootboxes or pay-to-win scenarios. Coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia.

Final Fantasy VIII

One of the best games in the series is finally getting it’s moment in the spotlight! Final Fantasy VIII is getting remastered and it’s coming later this year to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Last year, Square Enix revealed that many modern Final Fantasy titles were coming to modern consoles, with the exception of VIII. Now we know why.
