Guy Ritchie to Helm DC’s Lobo

Warner Bros. has thrown us a mean curve ball.  Variety is reporting that Lobo — everyone’s favourite “Bastitch” — is getting his own film. The live action adaptation of the DC anti-hero will be directed by none other than Dork Shelf favourite, Guy RitchieLobo will be Ritchie’s followup Sherlock Holmes.

The synopsis for the film sounds completely ridiculous, but if you’ve read any comic featuring Lobo, then you know that’s to be expected.

“Lobo has had several comic incarnations.  In the film, he is a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc.  Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.”

The article says that the film will be PG-13, but that Ritchie promises gritty humour similar to that of his earlier films.  Given the general violent context of the Lobo character, I’m surprised they aren’t pushing for an R rating.  Casting for this film is going to be fun.  My first guess is that Vinnie Jones or Jason Statham will have something to do with this production.

Tibit: in one of the many Marvel/DC crossovers, Lobo was set to battle Wolverine.  I remember getting really excited to read about this only to have the battle be a 10-12 panel disappointment.  Wolverine kicked his ass.
