Backdraft

Aries is a fire sign so we begin with a movie about fire. Ron Howard’s Backdraft is an action opus about two firefighting brothers (Kurt Russell and Billy Baldwin) with a major sibling rivalry. It is the quintessential Aries movie. Aries are passionate risk takers who love a conflict so battling fires and their siblings at the same time is basically their comfort zone.

Coal Miner's Daughter

The Coal Miner’s Daughter is a biopic of superstar country singer Loretta Lynn (herself born an Aries). The film shows what the energy, courage, self-confidence, and enthusiasm of those born under this sign can accomplish. Lynn was born into numbing poverty, became a teen bride and then the mother of four before she was twenty. But all that didn’t stop her from becoming the most awarded female country artist of all time. Those Aries’ get shit done.

[nextpage title=”8. Bullitt (1968)”]

Bullitt Steve McQueen

Ahhh, Steve McQueen. A beautiful example of an Aries man. He was nicknamed “The King of Cool” and personified the rebellious anti-hero of the 60s. He was also known for being combative with directors and producers, as any good Aries should. In Bullitt he is in top form as tough guy detective, Frank Bullitt. Pour all your thrill-seeking Aries energy into this breathless action film that boasts one of the greatest car chases in cinema history.

[nextpage title=”7. Election (1999)”]

Election

Election is a brilliant black comedy from director Alexander Payne – it shows the futility of crossing an Aries. High-schooler Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) is an aggressive, overachiever with a quick temper (textbook Aries) who plans on being the class president until a poor teacher (Matthew Broderick) tries to put a stop to her tyranny (in his mind). In true Aries form, an epic and hilarious battle ensues.

[nextpage title=”6. Gone With The Wind (1939)”]

Gone with the Wind

If you look up Aries women in the dictionary you might find a photo of Gone with the Wind‘s Scarlett O’Hara. O’ Hara is considered to be the very epitome of an Aries woman; determined, impulsive and feisty. Even the burning of Atlanta can’t keep an Aries woman down.

[nextpage title=”5. I Shot Andy Warhol (1996)”]

I Shot Andy Warhol

I Shot Andy Warhol is another biopic of a real-life Aries woman, S.C.U.M. Manifesto author, Valerie Solanas (played by Lili Taylor). The Mary Harron directed film follows writer Solanas as she strikes up a friendship with Andy Warhol, only to be frozen out of his famous circle shortly after. Worst than that, HE DIDN’T EVEN READ HER PLAY. Someone should have warned Warhol about what happens when you make an Aries angry. (hint: it’s in the title) Also if you haven’t read the S.C.U.M. Manifesto, what the hell are you doing with your life??

[nextpage title=”4. Foxy Brown (1974)”]

Foxy Brown

Foxy Brown is a classic of blaxploitation cinema, starring the one and only Pam Grier as a tough but sexy lady who exacts brutal revenge on the gang who killed her man. The term ‘strong female lead’ was born from Pam Grier films. Aries are trailblazers and while there are certainly a lot of fair criticism for these films, Foxy paved the way for all the ass-kicking vengeful ladies who followed her. I mean, it takes a special kind of badass lady to cut off a penis and preserve it in a pickle jar.

[nextpage title=”3. Girlfight (2000)”]

Girl Fight

Girl Fight, Karyn Kusama’s directorial debut, was practically written by the stars. Michelle Rodriguez hits it out of the park in her film debut as Diana Guzman, a hot tempered young woman determined to become a boxing champion. There is nothing an Aries loves more than a conflict and this film lets its Aries heroine physically fight her troubles away. Get it, girl!

[nextpage title=”2. A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)”]

A Sreetcar Named Desire

Brando’s iconic performance as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire is the blueprint for the Aries man.

Blanche Dubois (Vivien Leigh) herself calls it when she says, “I bet you were born under Aries. Aries people are forceful and dynamic. They dote on noise! They love to bang things around!” Uh, yeah he does. *winky face*

[nextpage title=”1. Mean Girls (2004)”]

Mean Girls

Oh, Regina George of Mean Girls, of course you are at the top of the Aries list. The ultimate Queen Bee, penned by Tina Fey and played to perfection by Rachel McAdams, really fleshes out the, ahem, ‘leadership’ qualities of the Aries. Okay, look, Aries are bossy bitches. I said it. But sometimes the world needs a bossy bitch. So let your inner bossy bitch fly! (at least until April 12th when Taurus season starts up)
