Caught a screening of Pontypool at the Ontario Cinematheque last month and was blown away. Pontypool could be called a thinking man’s zombie flick, but you don’t have to be a brain to get something out of this tense and claustrophobic film. Directed by Toronto’s own Bruce McDonald (The Tracey Fragments, Hard Core Logo); Pontypool stars the awesome and underrated Stephen McHattie as Grant Mazzy, a big-city Shock Jock turned small town radio DJ. What goes from being just another boring day in rural Ontario, turns out to be anything but.
If you can pry yourself away from that third or fourth screening of Watchmen this weekend, Pontypool is the movie to see.
Pontypool opens in Toronto on March 6th, and the rest of the country the following week. The US will get a limited release some time in May.
