Street Fighter versus Tekken Games Debut

You’ve really gone and done it now Japan! In an announcement likely to make fighting game fans everywhere go weak in the knees, Capcom and Namco Bandai announced Street Fighter X Tekken this weekend at the San Diego Comic Con. The game is being developed by Capcom and will pit characters from both long running series’ against one another for the first time. No word on whether the X in the title is supposed to mean “versus”, “meets” or “multiplied by”.

The gameplay for Street Fighter X Tekken will be based on the mechanics of the Street Fighter series, which would have been disappointing news for Tekken fans if producers from Namco Bandai hadn’t also announced that they were working on Tekken X Street Fighter, which will see the mechanics of the Tekken series applied to it. So we’re getting not one, but two Street Fighter versus Tekken games. You’ll finally be able to see who would win in a fight between Blanka and Panda… Come on, I can’t be the only one who wants to see that!

Having never owned a Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo meant that I missed out on the original Street Fighter games. However, as a lifelong Playstation owner I’ve spent countless hours playing the Tekken series. As much as the Street Fighter games have grown on me in recent years, I know which game I’ll be playing.
