Suicide Squad Trailer Looks Like it Comes from a Different DC Universe

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad first grabbed audience attention following the leak of a sizzle real at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. This time around the movie is making headlines on purpose. The new trailer for the upcoming anti-hero film debuted last night during a half-hour Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW, giving us a better look at the characters while making excellent use of Bohemian Rhapsody.

I don’t know much about the Suicide Squad in the comics and I know even less about the movie, but I like almost everything I’m seeing in this trailer. Will Smith and Margot Robbie look phenomenal, Jai Courtney is nearly unrecognizable (it’s an improvement), and sorry, but I don’t mind Jared Leto’s Joker. At least he’s doing his own thing instead of an imitation of Heath Ledger. Suicide Squad actually looks like fun, which is more than can be said about Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which mostly just looks exhausting.

Here’s hoping the finished movie is as entertaining as the trailer because it would be a shame if Batman’s thick brooding rubbed off on the entire DC Movie Universe. As a bonus, there’s also lot of Toronto hanging out in the background, which is sort of amusing if you remember that time they shut down Yonge Street for a helicopter.

Suicide Squad debuts in theatres on August 5.
