Community Episode 5.4 Recap

The six surviving Greendale Seven and Chang all agree to submit to what Abed describes as “the pie fight of cop movies,” and we all buckle down for 22 minutes (plus commercials) of what Community does best: A bottle episode.

Night of the Living Dead Live Review

Night of the Living Dead Live not only pays homage to the seminal zombie film, but also asks the question: if the characters had done things differently, would they have survived?

Holy Motors Review

Writer/director Leos Carax’s deeply, satisfyingly bizarre Holy Motors is a film that almost seems to go out of its way to defy classification. Put a gun to my head and I guess I’d describe it as an art house romp, but even that doesn’t quite seem right.

CONTEST: See UNLUCKY at the Royal!

Greetings shelfers, it's your lucky day - although we can't say the same about the protagonist of Ian Robertson's new film Unlucky. The dark comedy begins its run at the Royal this weekend, and we have five tickets to give away to five very fortunate winners.

Interview: Yvette Nicole Brown & Gillian Jacobs of Community

One of the most eagerly anticipated returning shows of the Fall has to be NBC's Community, currently entering it's fourth season. To celebrate the fact that all three previous seasons of Community are currently available to stream on Netflix, our own Ian MacIntyre sat down with two of the shows stars - Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley) and Gillian Jacobs (Britta) - to discuss their favourite episodes, showrunner changes, the upcoming season, and... feet?

Interview: ParaNorman’s Chris Butler & Sam Fell
Part Two

In the age of the omnipresent CG animated film and vapid big budget spectacle, it’s incredibly refreshing to see a lovingly handcrafted stop-motion animated movie like ParaNorman come along. We had a chance to speak with directors Chris Butler and Sam Fell earlier this year, and talked about the talented young cast of the film, the directors' own experiences with bullying, ParaNorman's relationship to the horror genre, the importance of zombies, and much more.

Interview: ParaNorman’s Chris Butler & Sam Fell
Part One

In the age of the omnipresent CG animated film and vapid big budget spectacle, it's incredibly refreshing to see a lovingly handcrafted stop-motion animated movie like ParaNorman come along. We had a chance to speak with directors Chris Butler and Sam Fell earlier this year, and talked about the "John Carpenter meets John Hughes" origins of the film, how technology has helped make stop-frame animation more practical, and much more.

Interview: Creators of Casa de mi Padre

This Friday, Will Ferrell returns with another cinematic entry of his patented brand of wacko-surrealist comedy. However, this time it’s a little different. Specifically, the movie, Casa De Mi Padre, is entirely in Spanish and subtitled. Dork Shelf got a chance to chat with Casa De Mi Padre’s writer Andrew Steele and director Matt Piedmont to discuss the origins of their completely insane (in the best possible sense) new movie.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas Review

Several years after an awkward experience at Guantanamo Bay (both in terms of plotting and execution), the most famous on screen stoners since Jay and Silent Bob and the funniest ones since Cheech and Chong, return to take on the holidays in the ornately titled A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas.

Tower Heist Review

America’s culture of greed has inspired several films in recent years, but Tower Heist decides to take a comic approach. It follows the employees of an upscale condo building who discover that their richest resident — also their accountant — has lost their retirement fund in a Ponzi scheme. The turn comes when the building manager takes personal responsibility for trusting the banker and plots to steal the money back from the banker’s well secured penthouse. It’s like a funny Ocean’s 11. Wait, Ocean’s 11 was already funny. Funnier? No... Hrm.
