I’m gonna lay it all out for you: If you watched the trailer for Hall Pass and thought “I bet I could tell you, beat by beat, exactly how that movie’s plot is going to go”, then you are likely correct in your assumptions. Save for a some supporting cameos and a few typically-scatological set pieces, the Farrelly brothers’ latest film feels exactly like the marriages it seeks to satirize: good-natured and comfortable, but ultimately tepid and crushingly predictable.
This weekend sees the release of Hall Pass, the latest movie from the Farrelly brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, Stuck On You). We’ll have our review of the film up soon, but in the meantime director/writer Bobby Farrelly and co-writer Kevin Barnett sat down for a roundtable interview here in Toronto, and Dork Shelf’s own Ian MacIntyre was invited to join in. Cedar Rapids is a nice movie. It’s a nice movie about a nice guy full of nice characters and nice jokes. And, like a young lady deciding whether or not to date a nice boy, your enjoyment of Cedar Rapids will depend on whether niceness on it’s own is enough to truly get you excited.
With Jess absent, Gavin and Jeff have a frank and deep discussion about the current state of media, lament having to grow up and reminisce about their respective dorky childhoods. They also discuss the always timely subject of the Transformers motion pictures.

The new red band trailer for David Gordon Green's fantasy-comedy Your Highness has hit the web. Quick word of warning about the trailer: it's red band. That means it contains violence, excessive swearing, stoner jokes and Natalie Portman in a thong — although we sincerely doubt that the last warning will serve as much of a deterrent.
About 15 minutes into Tucker & Dale, you will think to yourself: why did no one have this brilliant idea before? Maybe if they did, it would not the work of horror comedy genius that this film is. While initially worried that I saw all the best jokes in the trailer, I was amazed at how Craig and Jurgenson kept the entire film fresh and brilliantly funny.
Conan the Barbarian is well known for its hilarious lines and great action, but the film is also known for its wonderful musical score courtesy of the amazing Basil Poledouris.
