Insurgent is the obligatory sequel to Divergent, the latest series in a trend of young adult literature adaptations about dystopian societies... it ain't great but at least it ain't vampires.
Working with a bigger cast than he's ever had before, the melodrama White Bird in a Blizzard is an obviously plotted setback from Gregg Araki.
Sure, The Fault in Our Stars sounds corny at times, but this lovely and thoughtful romance earns every bit of the corniness.

The first thirty minutes of Divergent, the first in yet another young adult novel series trying to cash in on the success of The Hunger Games and the lack of Harry Potter in the marketplace, are really incomprehensibly bad. We talk to Theo James, leading man of the next big YA novel adaptation Divergent about his character’s internal struggles, what being in a franchise could mean for his career, his fears of being objectified, why people seem to be drawn to dystopian narratives, and why he approaches every job the same way regardless of size or potential success.
In Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, the most catastrophic events that befall the main characters happen off screen, making it a kind of glossy kindred spirit to the more youth oriented romance Like Crazy and the much beloved cult drama Martha Marcy May Marlene. Payne creates a story about privileged people dealing with real world issues without a sense of detachment or boredom. Sofia Coppola should see this film and take notes.
