Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Review

Are 12 new characters, additional modes and updates enough to justify a $40 disc release 10 months after its predecessor? How will the changes to the previous characters affect the high-level tournament scene? And what the hell is a raccoon doing with a repeater cannon?

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Launch Event

Few places in Toronto are as appropriate for an Assassin's Creed event as the Berkeley Church on Queen and Parliament. Originally built in 1871, it's a mix of the modern and the historical – a perfect fit for the time-jumping, history-shaping saga that continues this week with the release of Ubisoft's latest chapter in the series, Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Forza Motorsport 4 Review

Forza Motorsport 4 is a racing game designed for those who love driving, tuning, and customizing cars. The amount of options for customizing not only one’s car but also one’s gaming experience might be daunting to some gamers, but Turn 10 and Microsoft Studios have turned Forza 4 into an incredibly accessible game for both the casual and hardcore markets. Additionally, the game’s robust online multiplayer suite makes Forza 4 an incredibly rich and fulfilling game. In short, Forza 4 will offer any gamer a great driving experience.

Forza Motorsport 4 Preview

At the Forza Motorsport 4 launch event in Toronto we got a hands-on demo of the game. Forza Motorsport 4, from Turn 10 and Microsoft Studios, offers a myriad of new gameplay, customization, and community options that are sure to entice any racing fan. However, the event highlighted the variety of controllers a player can use to control the vehicles in the game. We had the chance to try out three of the game’s major controller options: Driving with Kinect, using Microsoft’s new Wireless Speed Wheel, and playing with the standard Xbox 360 controller.

Gears of War 3 Review

Gears of War 3 from Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios is one of the most definitive and comprehensive third-person shooters on the market. Gears 3 offers fans an action heavy conclusion to Delta Squad’s story, as well as an excellent selection of online game modes. The game provides the same solid gameplay and great visuals the series is known for, but even some Gears fans may find the game’s singleplayer campaign lacking in substance. On the other hand the game’s polished and varied versus and co-op game modes should convince many gamers to give Gears of War 3 a try.

Gears of War 3 Features Interview

At the recent Gears of War 3 press event in Toronto we had a chance to sit down with Jeff Rivait, Product Manager – Xbox Games and Accessories, and ask him a few questions about the development, gameplay, and features of Gears of War 3.

Gears of War 3 Preview

At the recent Gears of War 3 launch event in Toronto we had the opportunity to play about two and a half hours of the Gears of War 3 singleplayer campaign. The few hours we played of Gears 3 were filled with intense battles, huge bosses, new enemies, and a decent variety of gameplay. We certainly enjoyed our time with the game and cannot wait to play through the whole singleplayer campaign.

Catherine Review

Catherine is a bit of a legacy project from the Persona Team, but they don’t drag any Persona iconography kicking and screaming into it. There are no zombie dogs, Pyramid Head or pretty pan blonde boys with goofy swords. Catherine's pastiche is conjured from scratch. And that’s one hell of a reason to start a steamy affair.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations X-11 Impressions

Alexandre Breault, Ubisoft's lead game designer for Assassin's Creed: Revelations, gave Dork Shelf a rundown of the game's latest preview build at Microsoft's X-11 holiday preview event last week. A beardy, burly Ezio Auditore is on his way to Masyaf, former stomping grounds of his predecessor Altair.

Batman: Arkham City X-11 Impressions

Rocksteady Studios showed off a preview build of Batman: Arkham City at Microsoft's X-11 event last week, and we had a chance to romp through a wrecked of Gotham's biggest prison yard ever. Unsurprisingly, we left as excited as the previews and trailers have been making us over the past year, and then some.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Review

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition won't get new players interested in the fighting game scene any more than the latest map pack will for the Call of Duty franchise. But anyone who's sunk dozens of hours into the game over the past three years would do well to upgrade for roughly the price of two pints.

Bioshock Infinite E3 Demo

Irrational Games' Bioshock Infinite, the spiritual-but-maybe-not-really sequel to 2007's Bioshock, won multiple Best of E3 awards last month. Now the entire 15-minute demonstration has been posted to the public, and...well, maybe all those journalists and bloggers were right.

Metro: Last Light Trailer

Torontonians might think they have problems with their subway service, but they’ve got nothing on the citizens of Metro 2033, a sleeper hit of a game based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel of the same name. Now, developer 4A Games has released their first trailer of the sequel, dubbed Metro: Last Light.

Batman: Arkham City Catwoman Trailer

Rocksteady Studios certainly know how to make an announcement. At a pre-E3 showing of Batman: Arkham City, details emerged about a second playable character. In addition to beating up thugs as Batman, you’ll spend some time as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman.

Battlefield 3 Gameplay Trailer

Electronic Arts and DICE yesterday released a spectacular 12-minute gameplay trailer for their upcoming Battlefield 3. The military first person shooter (shocking, we know!) is being touted as EA's answer to Activision's incredibly popular Call of Duty franchise.
