This morning the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced an additional 26 films to their 2019 slate. All 26 of the new additions are directed by Canadians (with almost 50% of these pictures directed by women). This news comes a week after the festival announced 18 Galas and 38 Special Presentations which include Ford v Ferrari, Knives Out, and Joker.
The announcement contains 3 Galas (American Woman, Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band, The Song of Names), two Midnight Madness films (Blood Quantum, The Twentieth Century), two Special Presentations (Guest of Honour, Clifton Hill), and a David Foster tribute.
Previously announced Canadian titles include François Girard’s The Song of Names, Semi Chellas’s American Woman and Barry Avrich ‘s David Foster: Off the Record. Daniel Roher’s Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band has been selected as the opening-night Gala film.
