The 14th annual Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival starts today and runs through November 15th. The festival is Canada’s premier pan-Asian film festival, showcasing the best in Asian and Asian-Canadian cinema. Reel Asian also hosts a number of industry panels, as well as events for film fans.

This year Reel Asian features some truly awesome films from around Asia. Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines are all represented.

Some highlights include the 1970′s kung fu throwback Gallants, Yoshihiro Nakamura’s follow-up to Fish Story, Golden Slumbers, the French New Wave inspired Au Revoir Taipei, and Suite Suite Chinatown, seven GTA filmmakers weave seven short films about Chinatown together. The fest also showcases some great documentaries including Redress Remix, a fascinating and depressing look at the legacy of the infamous Chinese head tax in Canada.

Reel Asian tickets are $12 for regular screenings and only a bit more for the galas. The fest happens at various venues around the city, including The Bloor, The Royal and Innis Town Hall. The fest is a must for cinephiles, but chances are there will be a screening happening near you, so if you’re looking to catch something a little different for a change, why not check it out?
