I don’t play much Call of Duty, but this is still pretty cool. Cineplex and WorldGaming are officially partnering with Sony Computer Entertainment Canada to present the Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Championships 2016, the first in a series of national eSports tournaments that will kick off with Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The first round of the One-v-One tournament begins this weekend with online qualifiers that will run across Canada from January 16 through February 7, leading to Regional Finals in Cineplex theatres in 24 cities on February 21. The tournament finals will take place in Toronto on March 6.
Registration is free and open to the public (you must be 18 years of age to enter), so if you live in Canada and you play Call of Duty, there’s no reason not to enter. In addition to national bragging rights (who doesn’t want to be a National Champion), players will be competing for $50,000 worth of prizes, including $20,000 for the winner. Second place will receive $8,000, while $3,500 has been set aside for third. The rest of the prizes will take the form of giveaways for participants and spectators at Cineplex locations across Canada.
You can head over to the official tournament website to register or for more information. You won’t be seeing me on the battlefield, but good luck to all of the Canadian competitors!
