It may seem surreal to be thinking about Award Season right now, but not even a pandemic is going to stop Hollywood from doing their thing. And why should it? We may not have seen a movie in-theatre for what feels like eons, but 2020 still had a boatload of great film and television that deserves to be recognized—even if it is just over Zoom.

First out of the gate this year (as always) were the Golden Globe Award nominations. Announced this morning by presenters Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson, there were a lot of predictable but deserved picks (Chadwick Boseman, Carey Mulligan, Nomadland), several surprising omissions (whither Meryl’s 33rd?), and—as always with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association—a few complete head scratchers.
