FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL
Presents a 35mm presentation of Brian DePalma’s BLOW OUT
Wednesday, November 25th, 9:30pm
The Bloor Cinema
…Taking his cues from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, American filmmaker Brian DePalma has proven himself one of the major cinematic stylists of all time. His work is signature: fluid camera movements, sensational subject matter, sensuality, voyeurism and erotic, outrageous and balletic depictions of murder and death all combine with a cheeky, arch love of arthouse films and genre movies. Nowhere is DePalma’s greatness better illustrated than in his lurid 1981 thriller BLOW OUT, a mesmerizing amalgam of Antonioni’s BLOW UP, Hitchcock’s PSYCHO and REAR WINDOW and the sexy, art deco giallo’s of Italian filmmaker Dario Argento.
John Travolta stars as a Hollywood sound effects technician who accidentally “witnesses” a murder, recording the audio evidence on tape. DePalma regulars Nancy Allen, Dennis Franz and John Lithgow round out the exceptional cast for this hypnotic masterpiece.
FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL is proud to present a 35mm print of BLOW OUT. Host Chris Alexander will provide a pre-screening introduction to the picture and prizes will be provided by FSC exclusive sponsor, EYESORE CINEMA.
