On Saturday, December 6th hundreds of fans and media types braved the cold outside Toronto’s Windsor Arms hotel to catch a glimpse of filmmaker Peter Jackson and actor Lee Pace as they swept through town along with the cold front that came through the city to promote The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, in theatres across Canada this Wednesday.
The film, which caps off almost of full decade of work for Jackson in adapting material based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, casts Pace as Thranduil, an elf looking to reclaim the treasure of his people from an increasingly mad Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). Willing to go to war and with Thorin intent on protecting all of his newly reclaimed riches from the evil dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch), it’s up to Hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and human emissary Bard (Luke Evans) to stop a potentially devastating war and protect Middle Earth from a far more terrifying and increasingly strong Orc menace.
