That Awkward Moment Review

Although the bromantic comedy That Awkward Moment takes its name from a popular internet catchphrase, one can’t fault the filmmakers for choosing an inappropriate title. It’s certainly awkward, and it does have its moments.

Fruitvale Station Review

This Week in DVD: 5/15/12

This week's a busy one at the video store, as we take a look at Chronicle, Hard Core Logo 2, a BBC remounting of Great Expectations, Rampart, Albert Nobbs, the first season of Hell on Wheels, Wrestlemania XXVIII, and a very brief, curt message about The Devil Inside.

Chronicle Review

Just one month after The Devil Inside seemingly ruined the found footage film for everyone, along comes Chronicle, a sci-fi tinged powerhouse of a movie that single-handedly saves the sub-genre to stand as quite possibly the best example of the format. Red Tails Review

It’s hard not to talk about the World War II action drama Red Tails without bringing up George Lucas. Making a fighter pilot film had always been a dream of the man whose greatest strength was filming dog fights in the skies. Lucas, who allegedly oversaw reshoots and worked a bit on the script, receives only a producer credit here, but he probably should’ve had a lot more input on this tale of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. It’s a film that has its heart in the right place and nothing but the best of intentions, but also one the cries out for some sort of real guidance to hold this debacle together.
