The Shelf Minisode: Greta Gerwig on Lady Bird

It’s been a minute (okay, a few minutes at least) but we’re back with a very special minisode of The Shelf.

Since it premiered at TIFF, Greta Gerwig’s solo directorial debut Lady Bird has received praise across the board. The film stars Saoirse Ronan and an incredible ensemble of supporting actors, and even though she doesn’t appear anywhere in the cast, you still feel like you’re watching a Greta Gerwig movie. You can feel her established voice and humour in the script, making even more apparent the contributions she made to Frances Ha, Mistress America, and other indies she’s shared writing credits on.

Of course we jumped at the opportunity to speak to Gerwig about this auspicious new phase of her career. It was a brief meeting, but a memorable one.
