Hot Docs 2015: Sweet Micky For President Interview

Last January we caught the world premiere of Sweet Micky for President at Slamdance in Park City, and we didn’t have enough good things to say about it. The story of pop star Michel Martelly’s (aka Sweet Micky) presidential campaign in Haiti is uplifting, outrageous, captivating and most of all, fun. The idea for both the campaign and the documentary came from American hip hop artist Pras Michel (formerly of The Fugees), and both ventures went better than he could have imagined.

Pras and Sweet Micky director Ben Patterson were in Toronto for the Canadian premiere of the film at Hot Docs this week. We sat down with them to talk about the film’s conception, its Canadian connection, and the universal themes it explores.
