Queer Cinema: Portrait of a Lady on Fire Trailer Revealed

The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival is upon us and if you’re a cinephile, you know what that means! Awards season is in full swing and in recent years TIFF has established itself as a strong platform for films to begin their awards campaigns. While some films will soar, others will sink and yet others will continue to ignite their sparks.

One of those sparks is being lit by the thrilling trailer for Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Sciamma, who earned acclaim for her previous efforts Girlhood and Tomboy, is tackling a queer romance from 18th-century France. Starring Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel, the film has earned rave reviews and is sure to stir our emotions with full force.

NEON Studios, who scored initial Oscars success with the Margot Robbie-driven I, Tonya, will be distributing. Portrait of a Lady on Fire begins its theatrical run on December 6th. What do you think of the trailer below?
