RIP – Visionary Title Designer Pablo Ferro

If all Pablo Ferro ever did was to scrawl out the titles for Kubrick’s magnificent Dr. Strangelove: Or, How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb then the artist, filmmaker and animator would have his place forever enshrined in in any history of cinema. Yet Ferro’s hands touched far more than this most celebrated of design moments. He produced titles for no fewer than a dozen Oscar winning films, and even helped edit the Michael Jackson “Beat It” video directed by Martin Scorsese.

The Cuban born, American raised talent coincidentally worked in an advertising firm with Stan Lee with whom he collaborated on sci-fi comics.

For the uninitiated or for lifelong fans of the remarkable work he provided for cinema the site Art of The Title (co-edited by our own Will Perkins) has some spectacular content on Ferro and his career.

To celebrate his remarkable career take a peek at the opening (from Laserdisc!) of Ferro’s fine, personality-rich linework from Strangelove
