The battle to replace Hugh Jackman as everyone’s favourite big screen mutant continues to be an uphill one.
Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street, Magic Mike XXL) is rumoured to be exiting the upcoming X-Men spin-off Gambit.
If true, this comes as a huge blow for the project, as Tatum has been tied to it for quite some time now. The actor has dropped hints about his desire to play the card-throwing Cajun during almost every recent interview, and he even showed up at the X-Men panel at San Diego Comic Con – winning over the web by keeping Stan “The Man” Lee vertical.
The internet is a-buzzing with stories about director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Gambler) currently testing actresses alongside Tatum, such as up-and-coming SPECTRE star Lea Seydoux. This would mark the second time Gambit has graced the silver screen, as the role was previously played by Taylor Kitsch back in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Personally, I am not excited about a Gambit solo film and continue to scratch my head at the whole thing. Cast another actor or have Magic Mike just cameo in the upcoming X-Men Apocalypse and call it a day.
