Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Trailer

So Much for Happy Endings

Disney’s 2014 family film, Maleficent didn’t exactly set the world on fire. It received lukewarm reviews from critics and failed to capture moviegoers’ imaginations like other films that year – Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie, Big Hero 6. But Maleficent made an ungodly amount of cash at the box office ($758,539,785 globally,) so, a sequel was never in doubt. The only surprise is that it took Disney so long to crank out the followup. Now after five years, it’s finally here. Feast your eyes on the new trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer:

Love it or hate, Maleficent is one great looking film. And now Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ups the series’ VFX game. This movie looks stunning. The makeup, costumes, and creature effects all look top-notch. And the trailer features at least one impressive-looking large-scale battle. Mistress of Evil brings back Maleficent’s fully realized fantasy world, while expanding on the series’ rich mythology.

Mistress of Evil has a few more things going for it. First, there is its glamorous lead, Angelina Jolie, who remains one of the world’s biggest movie stars. Her magnetic screen presence and global appeal will drive people into theatres. But I’m most excited for a couple other people in the cast; Michelle Pfeiffer and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Pfeiffer is a screen legend who recently climbed aboard the Disney train when she joined the Ant-Man series. And Ejiofor is one of the finest actors walking the planet, so I will watch any movie he appears in. Hopefully, cashing Disney’s cheques help the two actors take on more work outside the studio system. I would like to see Pfeiffer star in more off-the-wall films like Mother!, where she showed up and stole scenes away from Jennifer Lawrence. And Between this and The Lion King, Ejiofor ahould have the freedom to get back behind the camera and direct more movies. If you’re a fan of Ejiofer’s work, I recommend checking out his feature debut, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.
