The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ryan Reynolds has beat out the likes of Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake for the role of DC Comics Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern.
Green Lantern which is being fast tracked for a 2011 release will be directed by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell. The fact that Justin Timberlake was even in consideration for this role already has me worried about the production — Hal Jordan is the man without fear, not the man with the best dance moves. I’m sorry JT, your occasionally hilarious cameos on Saturday Night Live do not entitle you to an amazing role like this.
With Reynolds as Green Lantern, his Deadpool spinoff for Marvel and Fox seems to be in doubt. I think Campbell and Reynolds can pull this off; I don’t know that Green Lantern is as big a smart-ass as Reynolds, but only time will tell. Personally, I would have preferred Cooper out of the three possible candidates. That being said I would have liked to have seen Chris Pine or Nathan Fillion get a shot at the part.
Green Lantern is due out June 17th 2011.
