They Came Together Review

While it certainly won't be to everyone's liking since the comedic stylings of David Wain and Michael Showalter are an acquired taste, our film editor thinks They Came Together is one of the finest skewerings of romantic comedies ever made.

The June Home Entertainment Round-Up

Time once again for our writers to look to their latest Blu-Ray, DVD, and VOD purchases with looks at new releases The Lego Movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Alan Partridge, Small Time, The Cold Lands, Tapped Out, and A Wife Alone, and re-releases for The Life Aquatic, Judex, Hearts and Minds, The Revengers, and Countess Dracula.

Small Time Review

Small Time is by no means a perfect film, but it gives enough of a fresh spin on a traditional sort of coming of age story thanks to some excellent performances from some consistently underrated actors.

Man of Steel Review

Although it might be still somewhat of an unsubtle disappointment, Man of Steel offers enough action and promise for the future, particularly from Henry Cavill in the lead and even from Zack Snyder in the director's seat. Still, someone needs to tell Christopher Nolan (and by extension actual hired writer David S. Goyer) to stop putting his very specific and far too serious spin on DC titles.

42 Review

Some may scoff at the total lack of irony and unapologetic sentimentality in the Jackie Robinson biopic 42, but there’s something so inherently romantic about this story and sport that anything else would feel inappropriate. Yet, 42 suggests that it might not be a terrible idea to dust off those old naïve Hollywood filmmaking techniques every now and then if the material suits that style.

Interview: John C. McGinley

We chat with famed and beloved character actor John C. McGinley, who gets to call the games of Jackie Robinson's first season in Major League Baseball as iconic Brooklyn Dodger announcer Red Barber in the biopic 42. We also talk about working with Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland, playing a sports reporter, and the how his approach here was somewhat similar to his small part in Office Space

First Man of Steel Image

It’s a spider-man! It’s an iron man! No, it’s a super man! Earlier today Warner Bros. released the first image of Superman from Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel slated for a 2013 release. The image shows Henry Cavill as the titular 'Man of Steel' showing off the squareness of his jaw in a suit that replaces the vintage spandex look with the recycled basketball one people seem to really like these days.
