The Shelf Episode 4 – Dilip Mehta on Mostly Sunny

The most googled celebrity in India from 2012 to 2014 was Sunny Leone, an actress who originally hails from Sarnia, Ontario and made her name in porn before becoming one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. Despite a past that ostracized her from her home community, India has embraced her and taken her to the next stage of this unlikely career. Mostly Sunny is a new documentary directed by Dilip Mehta that follows Leone over the course of two years as she navigates this new life and defends her past one.

It’s a very sex positive documentary that paints Leone in a mostly flattering light, yet she’s spoken out against certain decisions made in editing and has gone on record saying that this is not the film she thought they were making. Mehta makes no apologies in his candid interview with The Shelf in which he talks about what Leone objected to, why a documentary with no voiceover has three writers credited, and of course, what’s on his Dork Shelf.
