From The Kids in the Hall, to C.R.A.Z.Y., the work of Xavier Dolan and countless others, Canadian film has traditionally been pretty comfortable with our queerness, and actor-turned-director April Mullen’s newest film is another one that certainly reflects and embraces our country’s Queer identity.
Shot locally with an all female crew, Below Her Mouth tells the story of a torrid love affair between a dominant, womanizing roofer (Swedish model Erika Linder) and a socialite (Natalie Krill) living a heteronormative life when we first meet her. Although the film has been called “controversial,” the only thing different about this love story is the fact that focuses more on the “love” aspect of the relationship than most films would dare.
Dork Shelf’s Casey Reid caught up with stars Linder and Krill at last year’s TIFF and found out how they prepared for their respective roles, misinterpretations of the film, and of course, what’s on their Dork Shelves. Below Her Mouth opens this Friday, you can read our full review here.
