Video: The Walk Virtual Reality Tour

On the morning of August 7, 1974, French high-wire artist Philippe Petit rigged a 450-pound cable across two buildings 1,350-feet above the ground and walked the entire 140 feet between them. This unauthorized feat was achieved between the World Trade Centre towers and was the subject of the 2008 Academy Award winning documentary Man on Wire.

Now Sony Pictures is giving Petit’s story the IMAX treatment in the feature film The Walk, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and directed by Robert Zemeckis. We were invited to experience a virtual reality of simulation of Petit’s walk between the two towers, which is about as close as we’d ever like to get to trying the real thing.

The Walk will be released in IMAX September 30th, and theatres everywhere October 9th.
