“We are in the endgame now” – Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
The highly anticipated trailer and title to Avengers 4 dropped this morning much to the excitement of fan’s the world over… or what’s left of it. Taking a somber approach, the footage teases Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark drifting in space recording one final message to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). And the prognosis predicted by Cumberbatch’s good doctor seems grim. So, I guess we can count out a Tony and Nebula (Karen Gillan) galaxy quest trip back to earth? The rest of the trailer is a series of shots scored to Audiomachine’s So Say We All. From Malickian images of Thanos’ armour suspended in mid-air and in fields to the Avengers’ facility where Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers solemnly stares off post-snap with Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff giving us expositional cues. Surprisingly, the Marvel Studio’s logo does more to spoil Infinity War’s inconsequential conclusion than anything else in the 2:25. Finally, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang brings some much needed levity, but wasn’t he stranded in the Quantum Realm last we saw him in Ant-Man and the Wasp?
All we are is dust in the wind until the conclusion to Phase 3’s penultimate assembly of heroes arrives here on April 26th, 2019. Let the speculation continue, but one thing is for sure, the end is nigh.
