Ready or Not Fantasia

Fantasia Festival 2019 Reveals Full Lineup!

The Montreal-based festival announced its full lineup today including some small indies and large studio films.

Fantasia Festival is a magical few weeks in Montreal, Canada. From July 11th to August 1st, countless amounts of genre films are screened across multiple venues within Concordia University. The festival’s 23rd edition will open with the newest sequel to Japanese horror icon Ringu titled Sadako, and will feature the world premiere of Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not, as well as Canadian premieres of festival favourites from this year like The Lodge, The Art of Self Defense, Little Monsters and Swallow. Tickets can be purchased at Concordia’s box office and online starting July 6th. The link to the full schedule will be below, and stay tuned for more Fantasia content!

I really enjoyed my first Fantasia last year. Being a Toronto native, Montreal isn’t necessarily the easiest place to get to and from, and so last year I pretty much only went for Under The Silver Lake and made do with what other films I could see attached to it. The picks at Fantasia are always great and is always a solid mix of tiny hidden gems, as well as big studio, blockbuster-like films.

This year seems to dwindle on the side of more smaller films, but I’m really looking forward to seeing and hearing what ends up shaking up the genre film industry! I’m also looking forward to seeing any acquisitions!

I hate to be that guy, but I’m a tad disappointed Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood… didn’t make the cut given the fact that Inglorious Basterds screened at the festival in 2009. I was satisfied to see that Ready or Not did make the cut, even if I won’t be in town during its world premiere.

What do you all think? Anything I didn’t mention that I should have? Let me know, and I hope to see you at the fest!
