First Look at Half-Life: Alyx

After sending out a teaser earlier this week, Valve released an announcement trailer for their upcoming VR-exclusive, Half-Life: Alyx.

What we know: A few things about Half-Life: Alyx, including a release date of March 2020 and that the game takes place after the first but before the second Half-Life game. You play as Alyx Vance with the help of her father fighting against The Combine occupation of Earth. As it is a VR title, you’ll use the Gravity Gloves to manipulate gravity. Also, this is a full-fledged title, serving as a continuation of the Half-Life story.

“Everyone at Valve is excited to be returning to the world of Half-Life,” said Gabe Newell. “VR has energized us. We’ve invested a lot of ourselves in the technology. But we’re also game developers at heart, and to be devoting ourselves to a VR game this ambitious is just as exciting. For that to come in the form of Half-Life feels like the culmination of a lot of things we care a lot about: truly great games, cutting edge technology, and open platforms. We can’t wait for people to experience this.”

Valve confirms that a VR headset is necessary to play Half-Life: Alyx as it was designed with virtual reality in mind. Alyx is coming to Valve Index, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and Mixed Reality. However, Index owners get the game free and additional content.
