Sonic The Hedgehog Redesign Puts Us at Ease

In May, we got our first look at the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film, which was set to release this month. As it were, fans and critic alike were taken aback by the film’s version of Sonic and that led to a major delay and redesign of the iconic blue hedgehog.

Jeff Fowler, the director of the film took to Twitter to announce that a new trailer was on its way and thanked fans for their support.

If you wanted a reminder of what the original design looked like versus the new and true redesign – look no further:

I didn’t recognize the beloved blue hedgehog I’d grown up with and felt like the movie was so out of touch with the franchise and who Sonic was. In delaying the movie several months, Fowler and his team made the right choice.

The new Sonic is an overall improvement, and even though the design was leaked, the overall appeal of the iconic Sonic is here in spades. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic The Hedgehog Movie is in theatres on February 14, 2020.
