Jason Patric has signed for the role of Max, the main villain in the upcoming comic adaptation of Andy Diggle‘s The Losers. The Vertigo Comics title deals with a CIA special forces team working hard to combat terrorism. The hook being that the team is betrayed by their handler, Max (Patric), and left for dead. Quickly removing their names from the CIA death list, the group of agents plot their revenge with the intention of taking out everyone responsible, prime among them, Max.
Patric joins an already solid cast of actors: Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In case you couldn’t already tell, I’m totally stoked for this movie. I thought Jeffrey Dean Morgan was insanely good as the Comedian in Watchmen. Jason Patric only does a film every few years, but always blows you away (Sleepers and Narc). Patric just owns every role he does and I couldn’t be happier. He had this to say about The Losers
“Let’s face it, the geeks have inherited the world, and if you want to be a player in this system, you have to be willing to do some of this,’ Patric acknowledged. `That means exposing myself to Comic-Con and the foreign marketplace, stuff I’ve resisted in the past. You can’t resist it now. But I wouldn’t do `The Losers’ if it wasn’t interesting to me as an actor. I can use my voice to help a young director further his talent, that is the main goal. If it allows me to make the kind of adult movies that have become endangered, helped by securing a certain rating with these kids…”
This is shaping up to be insanely cool movie.
Tidbit: Patric apparently downed a bunch of Tabasco sauce before his death scenes in The Alamo to make it more realistic. The dude inspired Johnny Drama. He’s just that good…
