Toronto Indie Game Tuesday - Sissy's Magical Ponycorn Adventure and They Bleed Pixels

Toronto Indie Game Tuesday: Ponycorns, Pixels & Grids

Ponycorns, and Pixels, and Grids! Oh my!

Toronto Indie Game Tuesday is a new weekly feature on the site. Every Tuesday, we will endeavour to encapsulate all the latest and greatest goings on in the local indie game scene, from news and trailers, to playable demos, download codes, events and more!

So without further ado, preamble, introduction, etc. here is what you need to know this week:

Sissy’s Magical Ponycorn Adventure

This much talked about and unlikely T.O. Jam creation beat us to the day-claiming punch. Despite our claims of it being indie game something or other, July 12 has been named Ponycorn P’toosday to celebrate the iPad release of Sissy’s Magical Ponycorn Adventure from Untold Entertainment.

Local developer Ryan Creighton and his 5-year-old daughter Cassie spent a rainy May weekend at the Toronto Game Jam creating the game, with Cassie providing both the art and voices for the Sissy’s adventure. Not only is Sissy’s Magical Ponycorn Adventure a super cute game that can be called fun for all ages without a drop of irony, it’s also a legitimately fascinating window into the mind of a child. If you’ve got an iPad and young kids (risk taker, eh?!) you need to check this game out.

They Bleed Pixels

From Toronto’s Spooky Squid Games comes the debut trailer for their new game They Bleed Pixels. This punishing platformer casts players in the role of a demented little girl with claws as she jumps and, well, claws her way across various gothic stages. Pixels offers a combo of challenging platforming and beat ’em up combat, allowing players to slash, juggle and eviscerate their foes in all manner of bloody ways. The game also features music by the always awesome DJ Finish Him.

Having had a chance to sit down with early builds of They Bleed Pixels several times already, we can say that we were thoroughly entertained by what we played.

They Bleed Pixels is due out this summer on Xbox Live Indie Games. To find out more, head over to Spooky Squid Games

Grid Legion: Deviant Remix

And finally, fans of Magic: The Gathering will likely get a kick out of Wind Jester‘s new Xbox Live Indie Games title Grid Legion: Deviant Remix. A clever hybrid of traditional collectible card games and resource gathering real-time strategy games, the cards found in Grid Legion feature gorgeous artwork submitted by members of the Deviant Art community – hence the subtitle. If you like Magic, but are looking for something with a different spin on that formula, Grid Legion may be just what you’re looking for.

Fernando from Wind Jester Games was kind enough to provide DorkShelf.com with seven download codes for Grid Legion: Deviant Remix, which we will be giving away to the first seven people who tweet to @DorkShelf with the name of their favourite mythical or fantastical creature. Go now!
